Post Defiance

I'm delighted, excited and challenged to be a part of the editorial and administrative team for Tacoma's first online arts & community magazine Post Defiance!

This has been a mildly insane labor of love and the work will only increase as we continue to grow. If you are a Tacoman (or just a deeply devoted fan of The Fully Grown Fan) please read and let us know what you like.

We are also always looking for contributors so if there's a little something rolling around in your mind you'd like to express, either in writing or in some sort of web-applicable visual format, let us know!
We continue to accept applications from college students and community enthusiasts who would be interested in committing to writing monthly arts reviews and articles for possible publication in Post Defiance.

About Post Defiance
Post Defiance is a monthly online culture magazine written for Tacoma, about Tacoma and by Tacomans. Rather than racing to report on each day's big story, Post Defiance will bring together local writers, artists and citizens in the creation of unique, thoughtfully considered, high-quality content, interspersed with informative and relevant updates on happenings of note.

This publication is cooperative, focusing on partnerships and collaborations between individuals, organizations and businesses within the community who love, promote and produce the culture, craft and community that distinguish Tacoma. Tacoma may be "Grit City", but it certainly cleans up well—and we want to show its sophisticated side.

  • Visual Arts Writing Internship
Post Defiance seeks exemplary, creative and passionate writers to produce short, timely reviews and stories on visual art happenings in Tacoma.

Writers will cover everything from major museum exhibitions, gallery shows, and community arts events to artists and arts gatherings featured in restaurants and coffee shops—all Tacoma specific. Critical reviews, interviews with artists and arts administrators/professionals, and arts events previews are all acceptable content.

This internship is competitive with a strong emphasis on quality and creativity. Three to five stories will be selected according to strength and interest for publication per month.
